Everything you get for free (and why conditions forecasting is worth going Pro)

Offshore wind causes roughly half of all paddleboard rescues. Knowing the wind at your launch before you drive there is worth something, and it is the one thing in PaddleScout you pay for. Almost everything else is free.

The core of PaddleScout costs nothing. Upload your paddles and get clean route maps and honest stats. Drop pins for launches, car parks and hazards, and attach photos to the exact spot they were taken. Trim the drive off a track without losing the original. Track the distance and hours on each of your boards. Add friends, tag the people you paddled with, and share a paddle by secret link or keep it private. None of that sits behind a paywall, because it is the everyday use of the app, and the app should be useful to everyone.

Pro adds one thing: the trip planner. It shows the wind speed, the gusts and the direction, plus the temperature, at the launches you have saved, ranks them calmest first, and lets you look ahead to a chosen time. Instead of guessing whether your usual bay is paddleable this evening, you see it. That is the whole of Pro today, and it is deliberately the part of the app that looks forward rather than back.

The split is not arbitrary. Recording, annotating and sharing a paddle are things you do after the fact, and they stay free. Forecasting the conditions at a specific launch, at a specific time, is the part that changes a decision before you leave the house, and it is the part with real cost behind it: live weather data pulled for every spot you save. Given that offshore wind is behind about half of all paddleboard rescues, a reliable per-launch forecast is the feature most worth paying for, and the one we are happy to charge for while keeping the rest open.

If you never go Pro, PaddleScout still maps your paddles, keeps them private, remembers your boards and connects you to your friends.
